Apple trees grown from seed rarely grow "true" to the parent tree — every seedling is its own surprise, capable of becoming something new. Fitting, for a character who's always headed somewhere unexpected.
Apple trees are famously hardy travelers themselves — carried across continents by explorers and settlers for centuries, taking root wherever they landed.
Some apple varieties can live and bear fruit for over a hundred years — a whole lifetime of journeys, one tree at a time.
Apples are grown on every continent except Antarctica — there's nowhere in the world GranApple couldn't feel at home.
